Yup, that was a corny voice teacher joke.
Mel Flannery is a graduate of Manhattan School of Music with a degree in Jazz Voice Performance. She spent most of her life performing and recording in New York City until relocating to Honolulu in August of 2022. She grew up performing alongside her guitar prodigy father in Appleton, WI, where she studied as a classical soprano at the Lawrence University Arts Academy, sang in the girl choir, and studied privately with Carol Jegen.
As a New Yorker, Mel enjoyed the opportunity to perform as a lead and background vocalist at New York's most prominent venues including Bowery Ballroom, Terminal 5, Brooklyn Bowl and the original Blue Note as well as a robust career as a recording artist. She has released her own recordings and is a prolific session singer with the nickname "One Take Wanda" in some circles. She has performed/recorded with Questlove, Warren Haynes, Kevin Morby, Matt & Kim, for television & film.
Since moving to Honolulu, Mel has fallen in love with sharing her passion for music with others through private music education and coaching. Having only moved here in August 2022, She has already become well known at Blue Note, Moani, Hawaiian Brian's and others. Mel's strong foundation in voice technique and music theory and passion for music, singing, songwriting and people makes teaching music simply harmonious!
